High-Rise Under Construction in Downtown West Palm Beach Catches on Fire

Published Date: February 15, 2024

A high-rise building under construction in downtown West Palm Beach caught fire Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from firefighters. The blaze, reported around 11:40 a.m., originated on the 15th floor of the One Flagler building, as depicted in video footage showing dense black smoke billowing from the structure.

Approximately 30 West Palm Beach Fire Department firefighters swiftly mobilized to the scene, where Lakeview Avenue westbound near the Royal Park Bridge was closed due to the fire. While northbound and southbound Flagler Drive remained accessible, heavy traffic congestion ensued, causing delays for motorists navigating the area.

Fortunately, all 220 construction workers inside the building were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries. Firefighters, aided by the construction crews, managed to contain the blaze using fire extinguishers, successfully extinguishing it by 12:30 p.m.

Related Companies owns the 25-story office building, which is slated to open later this summer. Meanwhile, West Palm Beach Fire Department authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
