Published Date: January 5, 2024

An investigation is underway following a workplace incident in Fort Lauderdale where three workers fell from scaffolding at a construction site. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 4th, at an apartment building under construction on SW 27th Ave.

According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the workers fell approximately 15 feet from the scaffolding. It remains unclear whether a scaffolding failure or another factor led to the incident.

Emergency responders transported two of the workers to Broward Health Medical Center as trauma alerts, and they are currently in serious condition. The third worker was also transported to the hospital but sustained minor injuries.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigators are involved in the case, and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue has reported the incident to OSHA for any necessary investigations.

In response to the incident, construction work at the site has been temporarily halted as authorities work to determine the cause and ensure safety measures are in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
